In an effort to get Californians back to work, Senate Republicans announced today that they have introduced 24 of their job creation bills in the 8th Extraordinary Session. Last week, with Assembly Republicans, they unveiled the "Jobs First" campaign and this week took another step to help over 2 million unemployed workers by moving these important bills forward.

  • Senate Republicans outlined their plan in five simple themes:
  • Stop California Jobs from Leaving
  • Restore California's Competitive Job Creation Climate
  • Cut Government Spending and Bureaucracy in the Budget
  • Initiate Regulatory Review and Relief
  • End Frivolous Lawsuits That Are a Full Employment Act for Attorneys

Senate and Assembly Republicans today reaffirmed their commitment to a pro-jobs legislative package in 2010 to create private-sector jobs.  Following a meeting with business leaders and representatives of California's major job sectors, Republican legislators stood with small business owners to discuss the importance of putting California Jobs First in 2010.

"For years, Republicans have been asking the Democrat leadership to join us in supporting economic policies that create jobs, unfortunately they have been doing the exact opposite. Small business growth is the only way we are going to survive this recession.  More and bigger government is not, nor should it be the answer to our problems.  It's outrageous that anyone would propose new taxes on businesses and families in the middle of a recession," said Senate Republican Leader Dennis Hollingsworth, of Murrieta. "The Democrats in Sacramento still don’t get it.  A government take over of people’s health care to the tune of $200 billion is just utterly irresponsible.  How can the Democrats think that taxpayers are going to pay for this new government bureaucracy when they are losing their jobs and California’s government is already running amok?

"Today, Senate Democrats in Sacramento passed a government health care plan (SB 810) that would cost $100 billion in the first six months and $200 billion-a-year thereafter and would add another $42 billion to our current $21 billion state deficit," said Senate Republican Leader Dennis Hollingsworth, R-Murrieta.

"Democrats in Sacramento showed they are more interested in a government take over of people’s health care than creating new jobs and getting the economy moving again," Hollingsworth added. [Press Release]

Senate and Assembly Republicans today reacted to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 2010-11 spending plan.

“Senate Republicans are glad to see Governor Schwarzenegger’s commitment to not raise taxes again and his focus on job creation and beginning the process of eliminating job killing regulations. While this budget involves tough choices, that’s no different than the tough choices every California family has to make in these difficult economic times,” said Senate Republican Leader Dennis Hollingsworth, R-Murrieta.

“Controlling spending and not raising taxes have to be our top priorities in order to get California back on the right track- this budget is a good start,” Hollingsworth added.
