Senate GOP Leader Dutton Urges Governor to Call a Special Session on Jobs and Tax Reform

Following Governor Jerry Brown’s news conference announcing a tax increase proposal, Senate Republican Leader Bob Dutton (Rancho Cucamonga) delivered the following letter [PDF copy of letter] to the governor urging him call to a Special Session on Jobs and Tax Reform:

RE: Special Session on Jobs and Tax Reform

Dear Governor Brown:

As you might recall, Senate Republicans strongly advocated for a broad-based, bipartisan tax reform effort in March. You responded by telling us it was too complex and that there was not enough time.

Now, one day before the end of session, you have unveiled a tax increase proposal that was developed behind closed doors without any input from Senate Republicans.

There is nothing more complex than tax reform, and trying to jam through a proposal on the last day of session without transparency or input from the public and tax experts is irresponsible.

California cannot afford to get this wrong.

That is why I am requesting that, immediately following the end of this legislative session, you call a Special Session on jobs and tax reform so that the Legislature can work on a comprehensive and truly bipartisan job-creation plan.
