Sacramento - Senate Republican Leader Dennis Hollingsworth (R-Murrieta) spoke to the Sacramento Press Club on Thursday, taking the opportunity to discuss the Senate Republican Caucus’ role in facing California’s toughest issues, particularly with regards to the struggling economy.
“We want to be the catalyst for reforms that restore our state to the place where people came as the Golden State of opportunity,” Hollingsworth explained.
Senator Hollingsworth stressed the need to address California’s infamously hostile business climate, by reforming the burdensome tax and regulatory systems that stifle job creati on. California’s unemployment rate topped the 10% mark for the second straight month in February.
Highlighting a business climate he called ‘woeful’, the Republican Leader mapped out his plans to address California’s oppressive tax system, the ongoing mortgage crisis, and the need to stimulate more jobs across the board.
“Californians are going to start experiencing next week, a $13 billion tax increase at a time when they’re looking for a job. What we need is a fairer, flatter, and simpler tax system that works for all hardworking Californians.”
While Senator Hollingsworth reiterated his opposition to tax increases, he also pledged to partner with Governor Schwarzenegger and Democrats on government reform, rebuilding a viable water system, and rethinking the way California’s Legislature spends its citizens’ tax dollars.
