Senator Tom Berryhill (R-Modesto) announces passage of SB 1418 by the Senate Governmental Organization Committee today. SB 1418 would permit combined fair horse races to occur year round. Current law only allows these races between July 1 and October 31, but authorizes the California Horse Racing Board to allocate dates. The bill passed 11-0.

“SB 1418 will correct an oversight in current law which has restricted horse racing at fairs,” said Berryhill. “Allowing year round racing will provide a boost to a valuable industry and provide jobs and much needed revenues for California’s fairs.” 

Senator Berryhill represents Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, San Joaquin, Stanislaus,  and Tuolumne Counties.
