Harman Names Irvine Resident Jan Owens Volunteer of the Year

Jan OwensSenator Tom Harman of Huntington Beach has selected Janet Owens of Irvine as the 35th Senatorial District’s 2011 Volunteer of the Year.

Harman chose Jan Owens because of her extended record of volunteer activities in multiple areas of the community.

“Jan has my deepest admiration and appreciation,” said Harman. “She has taken ‘member of the community’ to an entirely new level by donating hours and hours of her time to bettering our local organizations. She is both well respected and an effective leader.”

Ms. Owens has a long, and varied list of accomplishments including President of Friends of Outreach, Treasurer of Woodbridge Cove Homeowners Association, President of (as well as volunteer at) Irvine Regional Hospital, volunteer at Lakeview Senior Center and Kern Resource Center as well as being an active and long-time member of the National Exchange Club where she headed the organization’s Youth of the Month/Year programs.

Betty Jo Woollett of Senator Harman’s staff presented Jan Owens with a Senate Resolution recognizing her achievements at the Exchange Club’s National Presidents’ Luncheon.  Ms. Owens is a past president of the Irvine Exchange Club.

“Retirement from her long career with the United States Air Force Contract Division seems to have been just the beginning of an accomplished record of volunteer service,” said Harman. “The citizens of Orange County are blessed to have someone so spirited and enthusiastic support our community.”
